Food trucks in Little Rock have traditionally been starting points for businesses wanting to advance to a more permanent setup. But not for Amanda Ivy, who announced she is opening a food truck business for her company Low Ivy Catering. Ivy is a widely respected chef who has put in time at The Southern Gourmasian, Heights Taco and Tamale Co., 1836 Club and, most recently, The Old Mill Bread Company. Ivy acquired the food truck from Gwen Jones, who used to run Beast Food Truck. Ivy says she still has some work to do in getting the truck ready for business, but once she does you can start to look for her around town. By the way, Ivy is also responsible for creating some of the best desserts in the city, including the Sopapilla Cheesecake at The Fold and Double Chocolate Bread Pudding at Raduno Brick Oven & Barroom.

When Kontiki African Restaurant in Alexander opened a couple of weeks ago, more than a few people wondered how long anything could stay open there, much less such a unique business. But apparently Kontiki is doing very well, thank you very much. The restaurant has put out a call for applicants for front of house positions, like waiting tables and bussing. Also, Kontiki has started opening up for dinner. Right now, it’s nothing permanent, but it was one of the biggest requests from guests on opening week. Kontiki African Restaurant is the work of Christian Domingo, an immigrant from Sierra Leone in West Africa 18 years ago.
Valentine’s Day is great for lovers, but this Saturday marks a special observance we can all get behind. It’s National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, so naturally Loblolly Creamery is going all in. The Loblolly scoop shop will be open Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with some special ice cream treats to start your day, like cereal ice cream sundaes, or sundaes made with cinnamon rolls from Will’s Cinnamon Shop in Hot Springs. Loblolly is also making an appearance at At the Corner Saturday morning for the second annual Ice Cream Brunch. So far, there’s no menu posted, but last year’s brunch saw dishes like crepes and ice cream, and even an ice cream hash. At the Corner’s Ice Cream Brunch starts at 8:30 a.m.
And just a friendly reminder that you can now get tickets to 2018’s first major beer festival. The Food and Foam Fest returns to Dickey-Stephens Park on Friday, April 13. Tickets are on sale now for $40. VIP admission is $65 and gets you a free t-shirt plus early access to the event. Food and Foam Fest benefits The Arthritis Foundation of Arkansas.
