After a sweeping renovation that striped the building down to its frame and repaved the parking lot, La Hacienda on Cantrell Road in Riverdale is back open to the public. The Arkansas Tex-Mex favorite opened its doors Monday and will be open seven days a week going forward. Hours are 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. La Hacienda’s new restaurant is modeled after its other two locations in Benton and Hot Springs, which have remained open in the meantime.
Cabot’s Filipino eatery Pinoy Express will close its doors for good after Friday’s dinner service. Owner Carlos Fergoso said in a Facebook post that sales have remained stagnant while his rent and other expenses have gone up. Fergoso writes that his mother’s restaurant, Whilma’s Filipino Restaurant in Searcy, will remain open. As for Fergoso, he says he will be posting some YouTube videos soon detailing Filipino recipes, ingredients and cooking techniques. Fergoso expressed hope he would be able to open again one day in the future in a new location.
Any time kBird does a special meal, you should do what you can to attend. Your next chance is Saturday, July 15, when kBird partners with Little Rock Urban Farming for the Thai Street Food Experience event. Richard Glasgow will be creating authentic street food dishes from Thailand for the outdoor event. This one is $50 to attend and BYOB. Tickets are on sale now, and I guarantee they won’t last long, so you need to get yours quickly. This is also a charity event; proceeds from ticket sales will go to benefit The Southern Center for Agroecology, which works to advance development of sustainable food sources.
Don’t call it brunch, but Flyway Brewing this weekend will start its regular “late breakfast” event. Once a month, the brewery will open an hour earlier at 11 a.m. on Sunday with one special breakfast dish on the menu. This Sunday, Flyway starts its late breakfast series with duck hash and eggs, with Southern sausage gravy and biscuits. Flyway will also have its full menu of pretzels, sliders, sausages and nachos available. Late breakfast lasts until 4 p.m., so you have plenty of time to drop by and enjoy this new tradition.
