After shutting down Rick’s Beignets and Cajun due to health concerns, Richard Rogers has found his way back into a Little Rock kitchen. Rogers has joined Heinz Kurt at his Bowman restaurant Lulu’s Latin Rotisserie and Grill and is already making his mark on the place. The two are combining on some new recipes, such as a Jamaican jerk chicken wing special and a new papusa entrée. And if you were missing them, the beignets are back and are the original recipe from the food truck. Look for Rogers and Kurt to come up with even more exciting new collaborations blending Cajun and South American styles of cooking.
Admittedly, I’m no Gilmore Girls fan (at all), but my wife is immensely excited about today’s transformation at Andina Café downtown. The coffee shop is part of a nationwide promotion called “Luke’s Diner for a Day.” The café will be decked out in Luke’s Diner gear, including branded hats and aprons. And lest you think it’s all just for show, Andina will be giving away free cups of coffee to the first 250 Gilmore Girls fans that come in. This nationwide promotion is ahead of the return of Gilmore Girls on Netflix next month.
As promised, The Water Buffalo is expanding its hours to accommodate its new brewing business. Beginning this weekend, The Water Buffalo will be open seven days a week, with new Sunday hours from 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. The store will be expanding its weekday evening hours further in the coming weeks. Buffalo Brewing Company is the only local brewery that not only sells its own beers but also beers from local brewers around Arkansas. That includes some you can’t find anywhere else in Central Arkansas, like 501 Brewing and Prestonrose Farm and Brewing Company.
Bicycle company Spokes Little Rock in Stifft Station is undergoing some renovations to greatly expand its existing coffee bar. Spokes has partnered with F3 Velo for the project. When it’s done next year, a third of the floor space at Spokes will be dedicated to brewed coffee and espresso drinks. F3 Velo has also purchased the Marshall Clements building on Rebsamen Park Road next to Pizza Café and is planning on building a new coffee, beer and wine bar that will focus on the cycling community. These projects will be completed some time in 2017.
Amanda Ivy of The 1836 Club has begun supply desserts for Raduno Brick Oven and Taproom. Ivy has created a double chocolate bread pudding dessert that is currently on sale now at Raduno. She is also working on some new dessert items to try out for Raduno and The Fold. Ivy has worked in several kitchens in town, including working alongside Donnie Ferneau at Good Food by Ferneau before joining him at The 1836 Club.
A relative newcomer on the block, Honey Pies is already expanding its hours to include breakfast six days a week. We stopped by the humming business to look at some of the breakfast options you can find.
