Today’s Rumbles feature is all about the burger scene in the Natural State, starting with the apparent closure of Arkansas Burger Co. on Cantrell Road. I say “apparent” because the company hasn’t answered any phone calls, emails or Facebook messages to confirm, but the restaurant has been closed for around a month now. It had closed two months ago due to an unspecified “health emergency,” but with the lack of recent activity, it’s pretty safe to say that this closure is permanent. Arkansas Burger Co. opened back in 2000 and has been featured in national publications like Southern Living.
Folks in Bryant finally have their very own David’s Burgers. The location on the I-30 access road just west of Reynolds Road rolled out its opening last week and is now fully open for regular business hours. This particular location had a brief delay as the general manager and his family welcomed a newborn to their family. This marks the ninth David’s Burgers location according to the company’s website. A tenth location is in the works at another spot in Conway.
Yellow Rocket Concepts is just about to make its Northwest Arkansas debut with the opening next month of Big Orange at Pinnacle Hills Promenade in Rogers. Chef and owner Scott McGehee will be traveling back and forth over the next month and a half getting the restaurant ready and training staff members on the menu. Once Big Orange opens, Yellow Rocket will turn its attention to a new Local Lime location, also at Pinnacle Hills Promenade. McGehee tells me this will be the largest concept yet (unless you count the brewery space at Lost Forty), with 7,500 square feet of space, a bar twice as large as the one at Big Orange Midtown, and a private dining area that can be closed off and seat 100 people. The new Local Lime almost certainly won’t be ready until some time next year.
Downtown Little Rock is getting a locally owned sports bar. The owner of Club Level on Main Street has closed his club and will be reopening next month as Brewski’s Pub and Grill. The logo of the new restaurant has already been painted high on the building and is visible for several blocks. Club Level moved from University Ave. to Main Street in 2013 before much of anything was located in the area. Now it’s home to Bruno’s Little Italy, Samantha’s, Soulfish Café, and soon to Ira’s and A.W. Lin’s.
