Growlers: Brews and Barks Coming Saturday, Lost Forty Blood Orange IPA, Flyway’s Excellent Cloudsplitter Pilsner

This Saturday, Diamond Bear Brewing Company will host Brews and Barks, a beer festival to benefit the Humane Society of Pulaski County. Of course, Diamond Bear will have its beers available, but you’ll also be able to get a pour from Stone’s Throw, Lost Forty, Mother’s Brewing Company and many more. And since this is a Humane Society event, feel free to bring your four-legged friend along for the fun (there will even be a booth where you can microchip your dog). Tickets are $35 before the event and $40 at the door. Brews and Barks does offer a designated driver ticket for $10.

Lost Forty Brewing today is releasing a small batch Blood Orange IPA in the taproom. It’s a 6.2 percent ABV ale that promises plenty of hop and citrus notes. Growlers and crowlers will be sold so you can enjoy this one at home. Also, late last week Lost Forty brewers started a barrel sour batch with Look-See Hefeweizen and fresh strawberries from Barnhill Orchards. Typically, a sour like this can take a month or more to age, so it should be ready to refresh Lost Forty fans as the weather gets warmer. We’ll let you know when it comes out.

I got my first taste of Flyway Brewing’s 2017 Cloudsplitter pilsner this weekend, and found it to be one of the best pislners I’ve ever tasted. It’s a Bavarian style pils with a wonderful balance of deep, sweet and bitter flavors that is instantly crisp and easy to drink. It’ll be on for a while, so you have time to check it out. Also, if you go Friday you’ll be able to sample Flyway’s latest employee brew program release. It’s a Black Cherry and Apple Cider that will only be available in the taproom. And lastly, I’m told that Flyway’s ultra-popular Bluewing Blueberry Wheat will be available in cans very soon. No specific date has been released yet, so make sure to check back here for updated information.

Rebel Kettle Brewing Company is giving you a special sneak peak of its Super 8 American Amber Ale for 4:30 Thursday. This is a malty ale brewed with Centennial hops that the brewers say has a very clean finish. Rebel Kettle brewed this one for next week’s Fantastic Cinema and Craft Beer Festival at Ron Robinson Theater. However, they held back a barrel to sell in the taproom. It’ll be available for a couple weeks until it’s sold out. By the way, tickets to the Fantastic Cinema and Craft Beer Festival are 0n sale now.

Prestonrose Farm and Brewing Company has redesigned its blog that details brewing adventures at Arkansas’ most unique brewery. The latest blog post details plans for a new building on the farm that will temporarily provide seating for beer and food for guests (and yes, it will have A/C and heat). In terms of beer releases, Prestonrose has a “Tea-S-B” on tap right now that uses green tea to make Liz Preston’s ESB recipe. And Prestonrose beer is getting popular in a hurry. A keg of spring saison dropped off at Water Buffalo this past weekend was sold out in less than a day. Prestonrose beer keeps getting better with each brew, and it seems like Arkansas beer lovers are taking notice.

Stone’s Throw Brewing has two new brews coming for its #NewBrewFriday event. First up is its Pit Boss Peach Hefeweizen, a 5.8 percent ABV hefe that was recently sold at Soul Fish Café downtown. It was also well received in its last major release back in August. And second is the Bernoulli’s Belgian Pale Ale, a 5 percent ABV pale ale that Stone’s Throw typically releases in the early summer months. Both will only be available at Stone’s Throw’s taproom.

And planning ahead, Superior Bathhouse Brewery has its Art of the Brew event coming up in Hot Springs on Wednesday, May 3. This 90-minute workshop will feature head brewer Rose Schweikhart walking attendees through the history of Superior Bathhouse and the hot springs that give the city its name. Of course, there will be plenty of tastings to accompany the story and discussion. Tickets to the event are $20 each.
