Chefs Team Up to Fight Childhood Hunger

We are entering into the time of the year where it seems like there is a charity dinner or event for every cause imaginable. Sometimes it is hard for a truly great event go noticed during a chaotic time.
The annual Arkansas No Kid Hungry dinner, held this year on November 2nd, is one such event. Every year a team of top chefs team up to cook an amazing meal and send the money raised to support local childhood hunger groups.
For the second consecutive year the event will be hosted at South on Main. Chef Matt Bell has dedicated a large portion of his time and energy to the No Kid Hungry cause over the past several years
This year’s meal is set to feature some great chefs. Returning from previous dinners are (host) Matt Bell of South on Main, Kelli Marks of Sweet Love Bakery, Travis McConnell of Arkansas Fresh, and Jeff Owen of Ciao Baci. Matt McClure from the Hive in Bentonville and Cassidee Dabney from Blackberry Farm are new faces to this year’s dinner, but the two Ashley’s alumni should be very familiar to Little Rock eaters. The event also teases that additional guest chefs are to be announced.
So why should you care?
The Food
In previous years each chef is responsible for a course. Each individually amazing. These are five of the top chefs in the region who excel at what they do. This year more than ever there is a great connection between everyone involved, all (aside from Marks) having worked with each other at the award-winning Ashley’s at the Capital Hotel. Each involved takes this event very serious and develop an incredible dish.
The Charity
There really is no greater cause for the food community than supporting the fight to end childhood hunger. In America 16 million children go without food every day. The No Kid Hungry program (which this benefits) goes to support local programs helping fight hunger issues.
In Arkansas that is the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance that is headed up by Kathy Webb who we talked about a little earlier today. In 2009 Arkansas was ranked #1 in childhood hunger. This is one of the biggest needs that the food community can support and make a measurable impact on the future of the state.
