Stone’s Throw Brewing has announced it is opening a second location in Stifft Station. Ian Beard has confirmed that Stone’s Throw will be opening a taproom in the Allen Building, just a few doors down from The Oyster Bar. The taproom will occupy the westernmost unit in the old strip mall, giving it access to a parking lot directly next door. Stone’s Throw has no plans for a kitchen, but you have to think the parking lot will be useful for parking a food truck or two so that guests don’t go hungry (plus The Oyster Bar could be used for carry-out dining). There’s a lot of work to do on the structure, making it very unlikely that Stone’s Throw in Stifft Station will be ready to go before 2019. Of course, brewing operations will stay at the current spot for the foreseeable future. Stone’s Throw opened five years ago at 9th and Rock St. in the MacArthur Park neighborhood. The brewery held a pop-up in Stifft Station back in June.
The doors are open today for Live Life Chill, the new restaurant in the space that used to belong to Revolution Restaurant downtown. Live Life Chill, or LLC, is open for lunch starting today. The restaurant and bar is also open for dinner, though only for limited hours for the time being. A menu posted on the LLC Facebook page features the standard fare of burgers, tacos, wings, salads and wraps, though there are also some fresh oyster options and kebab entrees. Already LLC has some events planned out, including a Tiki night this coming Tuesday and an upcoming collaboration with next-door neighbors Rev Room. We will have more on Live Life Chill tomorrow. Its official grand opening party is Sept. 27, which is still more than a month away. LLC is at 300 President Clinton Avenue.
Downtown Little Rock has another new lunch option available. Ira’s Restaurant on Main Street is now open from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. There’s a pretty robust lunch menu available as well; while the appetizer menu is pretty similar to dinner, the rest is largely different. There’s a good variety of salads, sandwiches and entrees available, with pretty much everything between $10 and $17. Ira’s opened in July, more than 18 months after closing in Park Hill for the move to downtown Little Rock. When we checked it out for our first look, we found plenty to like, including a gorgeous dining room and a cocktail menu that can compete with the best bar programs in the state.
Speaking of that area of Main street, there seems to be a new donut spot coming to downtown just across the street from Ira’s. Donuts & Deli has very little information out, but we are promised more to come soon. The space will be in the old Bruno’s Deli spot on Main street between tucked between Brunos and Soul Fish Cafe. We will have more as we know it.
The kids are back in school this week, and with all the running around that brings for parents, South on Main is helping out with your dinner plans. It’s called a “kids’ happy hour.” Bring your child in between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., and you will receive a free kids meal for every adult entrée purchased. It’s early enough that you can get home in time to get the kids ready for the next day, and it will be nice to take a night off of cooking once in a while. Look for this deal to get more popular as the school year progresses.
And Rock Town Distillery has settled into its new location on South Main St. and is expanding its business hours. The distillery’s tasting room is now open until 10 p.m. on Sundays and Tuesday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday night, you can stay until midnight. Rock Town Distillery’s new location allowed for a large bar and beverage program, and the tasting room’s new cocktail menu has been a crowd-pleaser. Of course you can also buy bottles of Rock Town’s spirits at the taproom to take home.
One of the best food festivals in the state kicks off next week. We previewed the Fayetteville Roots festival VIP party this week and found a lot of good reasons to upgrade your ticket.
There’s only one restaurant in town that comes to mind when you say “mojito.” We took a look at the impressive mojito menu at La Terraza Rum and Lounge and found plenty of ways to enjoy the classic Caribbean cocktail.
