Cold weather and holiday stress make these next couple of months primetime for good cocktails. You’ll want to head to the Pantry and Pantry Crest to check out the latest drink menu that barrman Gene Lee has crafted.
You can expect a few solid offerings – the popular Bottled Negroni still tops the list as well as a customer favorite – The Concrete.
“We’ve been serving The Concrete for a while now,” Gene says, “It’s a classic Becherovka and tonic – the national drink of the Czech Republic.” In the Pantry’s version, Gene’s using El Guapo Tonic Syrup – a New Orleans product with an Arkansas tie. Trust us, this drink is a must.
For those that like beer in their cocktails check out The Connection – Citadelle Gin, Galliano, Clear Creek Blackberry Liqueur, Lemon Juice, and Stone’s Throw Sausage Fest Hefeweizen.
Gene was particularly interested in building a drink around the Galliano – an Italian herbal liqueur.
“I’m really enjoying playing with obscure spirits right now,” he says.
On that same note, Gene fixed on Hayman’s Sloe Gin – one of Lee Edward’s products – in his drink The Modern. A combination of Pig’s Nose Blended Scotch, Hayman’s Sloe Gin, House Made Grenadine, and Absinthe, this drink is not for the fainthearted.
Gene says to expect, “a dark fruit flavor, … with a Scotch smokiness, … all tied together with a touch of sweetness.”
If you want to warm up while sipping on your drink, opt for El Ponche. Meaning “toddy” in Spanish, the simple combination of Koche el Mezcal, Green Tea, Honey Syrup, and Lemon Juice will leave you feeling warmer with a satisfied palate.
Last but not least, check out The Bohemian, a drink created by the team. The combination of Becherovka, Clear Creek Apple Brandy, Dolin Rouge, and Regan’s Orange Bitters will have thinking there’s a bit of Christmas in your cup. Gene says, “It’s kind of a hybrid between a white negroni or a white manhattan.”
