One of Little Rock’s fine dining staples, 1620 Savoy, offers up a creative seasonal menu paired with a side of atmosphere. Named for the first integrated jazz club in Harlem, the nostalgic setting provides the perfect backdrop for a fancy night out or a casual meeting, with delicious eats to accompany both and everything in-between.
Chef Joseph Salgueiro and his team have worked to bring various culinary choices that are sure to play with your taste buds. On the appetizer menu, flat bread may seem like an underwhelming choice, but Savoy’s take is chock full with flavor drawing from salty pistachio, basil pesto and balsamic reduction married with shrimp and topped with mozzarella, arugula and diced tomatoes. Another popular option, the wontons, make a great choice for a cold day. The coconut lime sticks and pickled carrots are excellent with the accompanying cucumber cilantro chili sauce.
Savoy’s entrees offer a wide array of choices. The pepper tuna is succulent and explores a pleasant flavor combination of shaved asparagus with julienned roma tomatoes, pickled cippolini onion, and ginger buerre blanc. For a taste from the southwest try the Coriander-Cured Kabuto Pork Chop. The dish contains lobster, crawfish, black bean ragout, and green chili grits.
For an in-house entrée recommendation, Chef Salguiero highly recommends the Airline Chicken which he calls, “a true fan favorite.” The dish includes butternut squash-country bacon marmalade hash, spiced pecan dust, and port wine wild berry reduction.
Don’t forget dessert – the culinary team at Savoy definitely won’t. The restaurant offers a taste of freshly made chocolate truffles, among other specialties.
