Underrated Places: NYPD Pizza

For whatever reason, whether it’s small size, an out-of-the-way location, or just a lack of publicity, some restaurants tend to fall under the radar with a larger audience. Our new series takes a look at these Underrated Places.
Where: NYPD Pizza (6015 Chenonceau Blvd)
The Restaurant: Technically a chain (several Florida locations), the far west Little Rock NYPD Pizza is tucked away in a strip center off Chenonceau Blvd. The menu is filled with a variety of appetizers, salads, pasta dishes, and, of course, NY-style pizzas.
The Atmosphere: Family-friendly and inviting—NYPD Pizza offers a setting perfect for a large group, yet intimate enough for a casual date night out on the relaxing patio. If you’re in the mood to take in a game, there’s never a television more than a few feet away.
The Service: I’ve been to NYPD on several occasions and have always encountered prompt, attentive service, athough don’t expect a pizza to arrive at your table within minutes of an order. Sometimes greatness takes an extra few minutes, but the end product is well worth the wait.
The Food: Start your meal off with the Chelsea Caesar Salad, a substantial bowl of chopped romaine lettuce, along with grated Parmesan, croutons and Caesar dressing. Not in the mood for pizza? The pasta and meatballs comes with a hearty marinara sauce and is surprisingly delicious, especially good for the kiddos. Salad and pasta aside, you go to NYPD Pizza for the pizza and no pie is better than The Queens Deluxe Pie. It’s NYPD’s version of a supreme pizza, piled with sausage, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms, green peppers and mozzarella cheese. The toppings are plentiful, but the thin, chewy crust with its charred edges, is what really separates this pizza from much of the competition. For a nice alternative, opt for the Da’ Bronx BBQ Chicken Pie, a simple pizza topped with bbq and pizza sauce, grilled chicken, red onions, spices and mozzarella cheese.
The Verdict: In a city filled with several fantastic pizza options (think ZAZA’s, Vino’s, Pizzeria at Terry’s and Iriana’s), NYPD Pizza, with its far west location, sometimes gets lost in the mix. It shouldn’t. It can hold its own with many of the top places in town.
The Info: Store Hours: Mon-Thurs: 11am to 9pm; Fri-Sat: 11am to 10pm; Sunday: 11am to 9pm (501-868-3911)
