South on Main Invited to Cook at James Beard Foundation in New York

Little Rock restaurant South on Main has been invited to cook at the prestigious Beard House in New York by the James Beard Foundation on August 17th.
The dinner marks Arkansas’ third invitation to the Beard House, previous attendees are the Capital Hotel in 2011 and a group of Bentonville restaurants (Tusk & Trotter American, Eleven at Crystal Bridges, the Hive, and Meridienne Dessert Salon) cooked in 2013.
The Beard Foundation is the most prestigious organization promoting culinary awareness in the country. Along with their annual Beard awards they actively promote culinary awareness year around including special dinners at the Beard House. The Foundation then officially opened the James Beard House “to provide a center for the culinary arts and to continue to foster the interest James Beard inspired in all aspects of food, its preparation, presentation, and of course, enjoyment.”
All culinary teams must be invited to cook at the Beard House and is seen as a great honor among restaurants to receive an invitation.
“Everyone on the South on Main team is honored to be invited to the James Beard House. What I’m most looking forward to is taking our team to New York for this event,” South on Main chef and owner Matthew Bell tells us. “It is because of their hard work and dedication that invitations like this come our way. I owe our success to them and am thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate as a team.”
Invited chefs must supply all food and beverages for the performance as well as pay for their own transportation and accommodations while in New York. To help offset the costs South on Main and Rock City Eats are holding a fundraiser dinner on June 28th.
The dinner will be a restaurant family meal style featuring smoked pork, chicken, and salmon along with a wide variety of sides, beer, and wine. South on Main has grown to be such a strong part of the community that we really wanted to include the community in the journey. In addition to dinner the ticket gets you into the Beard House Dinner watch party at South on Main on August 17th where we will serve beer and appetizers and watch the South on Main team prepare the dinner live.
