Rumbles: Taste of Little Rock, Ceci's Ready to Move, Bernice Garden Farmers Market

Thursday evening is the 16th Annual Taste of Little Rock event at UA Little Rock. Nearly 40 restaurants and breweries will serve up food and drink at the Jack Stephens Center tomorrow evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Local favorites like Sauced, Rebel Kettle, Trio’s, La Terraza and Samantha’s will be dishing out as many bites as you can fit on your plate. While the event highlights the food of Central Arkansas, the proceeds go to benefit the UA Little Rock Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. Tickets are available online or at the door for $75; it’s only $35 for lifetime alumni members. This year’s honoree is Arkansas Heart Hospital CEO Bruce Murphy, who graduated from UA Little Rock in 1975. You can find a full list of restaurants participating is at the bottom of this article.
Ceci’s Chicken and Waffles will close its doors in Conway on April 28 in advance of its upcoming move to Little Rock. The outstanding chicken and waffles and soul food restaurant started in North Little Rock before making the move to Conway two years ago. There, owner Ciceley McDowell expanded her fan base and her menu, building a brunch style menu and offering more authentic Southern recipes. McDowell isn’t yet ready to talk about where she will be setting up in Little Rock, but it’s safe to say you will want to visit when she opens.
One of the best farmers markets in Arkansas is back in less than two weeks. Bernice Garden Farmers Market is slated for an April 14 grand opening. More than anything, Bernice Garden has always felt like a fully developed market, offering crafts, cooking classes, special events, and musical guests. The market will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on April 14 and every Sunday except Labor Day weekend until November 3.
With the welcome return of Arkansas spring comes plenty of opportunities for Little Rock food trucks to pop up. This week alone you can find plenty out and about, including Delta Biscuit, Tren Al Sur and Say Cheese tomorrow at First Thursday in Hillcrest, Low Ivy Friday at The Southern Blonde, food trucks Saturday and Sunday at The Rail Yard, and five trucks Sunday at the preseason opener of the Little Rock Rangers Soccer Club at War Memorial Stadium. Find a food truck have them make you a meal this week!
