Rumbles: Restaurant Inspections Soon Available Online, HTT Unveils Brunch, John Daly Steakhouse Opens Next Month

News
In a move that’s probably long overdue, the Arkansas Department of Health is set to make restaurant inspections publicly available online. THV11 was first to report on the new portal that will go live on Friday, allowing anybody to access inspection results of any restaurant in the state. In the past, local restaurant owners we’ve spoken with have been in favor of more transparency like this. Most owners take great pride in their cleanliness and devotion to safe cooking standards, and this will make it easier for the public to see just how well they’ve been doing.
Brunch has overtaken this city as the food scene’s hottest trend of late, but there’s been one holdout restaurant that a lot diners have wanted to join the party. That will happen Sunday, when Heights Taco & Tamale Co. will open its doors at 10 a.m. for Ark-Mex Brunch, a new service that will be available every week. The brunch menu is small but delicious-looking, featuring a churros waffle, chicken biscuit, biscuits and gravy, and a crazy idea called “Breakfast Nachos” (which I will be trying very soon). Of course, the All-Day Breakfast Tacos are available, as are a new vegan brunch taco and a host of brunch cocktails. Yellow Rocket’s Lost Forty already makes one of the best brunches in town, so we’re excited to see what the team has come up with for HTT.
John Daly, the Arkansas golfer known for his irreverent style on and off the golf course, will soon open his first restaurant in Conway. John Daly’s Steakhouse is set to open Sept. 1 at 912 Front Street. Construction delays and late issuance of the restaurant’s liquor permit prevented the steakhouse from opening on its original target date of Aug. 1. The two-story restaurant will feature a 5,000-square foot dining room, a private dining space and a large bar area. It is the first of several locations planned for John Daly’s Steakhouse.
Little Rock’s top Thai restaurant kBird is set to close all next week for an undisclosed reason. The Hillcrest spot will be closed Aug. 7 and will reopen on Monday, Aug. 14. By the way, when it opens again, be sure to be on the lookout for the next wave of tickets for the outstanding Khantoke dinner series. Three Khantoke events in June sold out in just minutes. It’s easily one of the best dinners I’ve ever eaten, and I hope you get the chance to go to the next Khantoke offered.
It seems hard to believe it’s only been around for one year, but this weekend Honey Pies will celebrate its first anniversary. The pie shop will mark the occasion all day Saturday with some crust cookies for visitors (Honey Pies says they’re perfect for dipping in coffee). If it seems like longer, it’s probably because Sharon Woodson was making her outstanding pies for a while before opening up the storefront on Bowman Road. Make sure to stop in, and then make sure to ask her to make the Honey Pecan Pie a year-round thing. You know, for me.
The recently opened restaurant at Heights Corner Market is adding lunch hours starting this week. The initial menu keeps it simple with three options each for sandwiches, salads, and soups. Lunch service runs Tuesday – Saturday from 11-2.
Head out to Raduno today for their Better Lives Through Pizza Pies promotional event benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. A portion of the proceeds from sales at Raduno will go to provide funds the foundation uses to research cures for cystic fibrosis.
