Rumbles: Public Vote for Diamond Chef Contestants, Delta Biscuit Company Fundraiser

Arkansas’ top cooking competition is going social. The 2018 Diamond Chef competition is looking for ten competitors for the opening round of the annual cook-off, and this year, you get to decide who competes. From now until Nov. 6, you can visit the Diamond Chef “Makin’ the Cut” webpage, watch the videos of prospective competitors, and vote once per day. And the lineup of chefs is an impressive one, including Table 28’s Scott Rains, The Old Mill’s Amanda Ivy, The Avenue’s Casey Copeland, The Pantry’s Titus Holly and many other talented entrants. Diamond Chef will take the top ten vote-getters for the semifinals on Nov. 13, where they will cook at Pulaski Tech for two culinary instructors. The top six will move on to the finals on April 19, 2018. This is a big honor for these chefs, so make sure you visit every day and vote for your favorite.

Initially reported as sold out, The Pantry late yesterday sent out an email saying four tickets remain for its anticipated beer dinner with Flyway Brewing on Monday, Nov. 6. Tickets to the dinner are $60 each and must be ordered in advance. The five courses include pork rillettes, smoked black bean soup, Merguez sausage, braised oxtails and basil-lemon sorbet. This dinner will be at the west location. To check on ticket availability (which could be sold out by the time you read this), call The Pantry at 501-353-1875.

After two years of planning, development and training, Delta Biscuit Company is closing in on opening a regular business. Owner Hayne Begley is getting an IndieGoGo page started that will help raise money for a new food truck. Begley is advertising it as a way to “fill the void or an amazing weekday breakfast in Little Rock.” Hegley plans on launching the fundraising page around the end of next week. You can sign up now for updates on the campaign. Of course, we’ll also keep you posted here on how Delta Biscuit Company is shaping up.

Families in Saline County have a new spot to take the kids for lunch and dinner. All Aboard Restaurant in Benton opened its doors late last week. The train-themed diner is located in the new Shoppes of Benton just off Exit 121 on I-30 West. If you’ve never been, All Aboard’s defining feature is bringing your food to the table via an electric train that operates above the dining room. The restaurant’s primary location is on Cantrell Road. All Aboard is open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.

It’s taken more than a year and a half, but Three Sams BBQ Joint has finally returned from a fire that gutted the restaurant. Before you go for lunch today, check out our First Look of the rebuilt establishment and why it’s so important to the Mabelvale community.

Looking for dinner ideas? You really should check out La Terraza in Hillcrest. We stopped by the Venezuelan restaurant for a peak at a new menu chock full of influences from South American to Europe.
