This weekend marks the final days that Loblolly Creamery will spend in the Green Corner Store. For more than five years, Loblolly has shared the space, running the soda fountain and selling ice cream from a few freezers. Loblolly will be making the move just next door to the former Studio Main space over the next month. Currently, Loblolly can only carry around 10 flavors at once, but plans to offer as many as 32 at the same time in the new shop. In addition, Loblolly will be free to extend its open hours and apply for a liquor permit to sell boozy desserts. To celebrate, Loblolly is offering a special menu this weekend, including chocolate egg creams, brownie sundaes and soda floats. The move was originally supposed to happen back in January, but renovations plans and logistics pushed it back to the summer.
Honey Pies executive chef Mindy Mitchell will be leaving soon to take over the same position at the not-yet-opened Agave Grill in Benton. Mitchell came to Honey Pies earlier this year from Courtyard Mariott in North Little Rock. She originally came to Arkansas from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina and got her degree at Pulaski Tech’s culinary arts program. Agave Grill bills itself as a Mexican-American fusion restaurant. A video posted to the restaurant’s Facebook page shows construction and painting is still in progress, meaning an opening day is likely months away.
Riverfest is a week and a half away, and restaurants in the downtown area are already preparing. Bruno’s Little Italy will be closed Saturday, June 3, for the music festival. And Damgoode Pies is again opening its patio up for ticketed reservations. The patio overlooks the River Market Amphitheater, meaning you get great seats and some good food and beer while enjoying the show. There are just a few tables still available for Friday and Saturday, and more are open for Sunday. Tables are $100 for a table for four and $150 for a table for six.
District Fare has been going strong since opening day in Hillcrest a couple of weeks ago, and now Tomas Bohm’s new place is ready to hold a grand opening celebration. District Fare has scheduled the party for next Thursday night to coincide with First Thursday Shop n’ Sip in Hillcrest. District Fare sells sandwiches, soups and salads for its restaurant diners. It also sells foodstuffs, Arkansas Fresh bread and cured meats for customers to take home.
This coming weekend marks the end of Ceci’s Chicken and Waffles in North Little Rock. As we told you earlier this month, the soul food restaurant is moving to Conway to open a new spot on Dave Ward Dr. Ceci’s opened a year and a half ago and has since enjoyed a widespread, positive response from writers and food-lovers around Little Rock.
