Rumbles: kBird Making Moves, Rick Beignets Closing for a Month, Flyway Brewing Update and More

News

Little Rock’s outstanding Thai restaurant kBird has been busy lately with several projects. We’ve already told you how Richard Glasgow is working to expand his dinner hours, but now he is also serving Saturday brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. kBird is only serving two items for this brunch, but more than one person has told me that both are excellent. In addition, kBird announced and promptly sold out a multi-course meal at $50 a head. We hope to see more of those in the future. Lastly, Glasgow has announced that kBird will be closed the whole month of January while he visits Thailand and then renovates the restaurant.
Also closing soon for a short time is popular Sherwood food truck Rick’s Beignets. Richard Rogers will shutter his truck after tomorrow until January 15. Rogers says he will open back at the same location off Country Club Road next year. He also says he plans on coming out to more food truck events, such as Westover Wednesdays and Main Street Food Truck Fridays.
If you missed the big news this weekend, read our report on Juanita’s closing for good in less than two weeks. The restaurant and concert venue has been a mainstay of Little Rock’s food and culture scene for nearly 30 years, but business had fallen since the move to the River Market.
Flyway Brewing continues getting very close to its opening day. The brewery’s first batch of beer is out the door to restaurants and bars all around town. South on Main, Flying Saucer, The Southern Gourmasian, Professor Bowl, Cregeen’s Irish Pub and Samantha’s Tap Room and Wood Grill are just some of the places you can find Flyway’s Shadow Hands Stout and River Trail Ale. We will keep you posted on when the taproom is open for business.
Speaking of breweries, up-and-comer Slate Rock Brewing in Clark County has laid the foundation and is raising the walls on its new taproom in the tiny town of Amity. Slate Rock is building a brewery in a rural county that just went wet, which is no easy task.
And one more brewery update here, as Prestonrose Farm and Brewing Co. in Paris, Ark., recently got its restaurant license from the Arkansas State Board of Health. Prestonrose is an organic heirloom farm and tiny one-barrel brewery that has plans to expand to a seven-barrel system next year. No word yet on whether we’ll be able to find their beer here in Little Rock anytime soon.
As we reported here yesterday, Damgoode Pies has closed its Rodney Parham location and is ending deliveries to West Little Rock.
New restaurants are popping up around Central Arkansas. This week, we previewed Benton’s new Flyin’ Pig BBQ Joint, and we took a first look at the seafood extravaganza at the new Lulu’s Crab Boil in Little Rock.
