Set your cell phone alarms to just before 2 p.m. this Friday, because that’s when tickets go on sale for the first three of kBird’s nine Khantoke dinners this year. We went last year to this stunning, multicourse Thai dinner and were absolutely blown away. Richard Glasgow serves up close to a dozen Northern Thailand dishes family style, each with a story about the food and the region. Tickets to the dinner are $49 and will sell out almost instantly; last year they were gone in less than 10 minutes. The first three dinners are all on Saturdays: June 24, July 8 and July 22. To get your tickets, send an email this Friday at 2 p.m. to email@example.com. Include how many tickets you want to purchase and which of the three dates you would like to attend. Then wait for a response and pray you got your email in on time.
The Southern Gourmasian will be featured on The Cooking Channel’s Big Bad BBQ Brawl on Tuesday, June 13, at 9 p.m. Justin Patterson and his team shot the episode back in October at Harvestfest in Hillcrest. New York City BBQ chef Shannon Ambrosio challenges chefs and pitmasters across the country to a barbecue competition, and The Southern Gourmasian got the call when he visited Little Rock. If it’s a part of your television package, you can find The Cooking Channel on channel 232 on DirecTV, 113 on Dish, 456 on AT&T U-verse and 122/1281 on Xfinity.
The Loblolly Scoop Shop is now open for business. Loblolly moved out of Green Corner Store just over a week ago to open its own space just a few doors down on Main Street. Loblolly is now open seven days a week from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., though on social media they have said they’ll stay open later if there is a crowd. Of course, you can still find Loblolly at high-end grocery stores around town, as well as several area restaurants and coffee shops.
Rock Town Distillery is turning seven years old this month. Little Rock’s only distillery will celebrate the occasion on Saturday, June 24, with the release of its much-anticipated Rock Town Sherry Cask Wheat Edition whiskey. This is a one-time bottling that will only be available in the tasting room in 375 mL bottles for $49.99 each. Rock Town will also be holding a special master distiller tasting event for $40, which includes a free whiskey glass and the chance to taste at least five unique Rock Town spirits while they’re still in the barrel. And finally, all day June 24, Rock Town will offer special cocktails, free tours and plenty of food trucks in the parking lot.
If you are still looking for Father’s Day gifts, Grassroots Coop is offering a special Father’s Day grill bundle filled with steaks, bratwurst, ground beef, and chicken drumsticks. Plus, as a part of the package, they will donate 10% to Heifer international. You can order it here.
And finally, you still have time to purchase tickets for the No Kid Hungry event in Bentonville on Tuesday. The event will be held at The Hive at the 21c Museum Hotel. The Hive chef Matthew McClure will be joined by Matthew Cooper (The Preacher’s Son), Dominic Luzzo (Fiamma 1873), Annie Petry (Decca in Louisville, Kent.) and Jeff Wetzel (Oven and Tap). Individual tickets are $150. All proceeds go to benefit No Kid Hungry, which works to end food insecurity for children in Arkansas and around the country. Events in Arkansas have worked; the state saw an increase of 1.6 million in terms of summer meals given to kids in 2015. That was the biggest increase of any state in the country.
The creator of Geek Eats, Little Rock’s most popular hummus, sat down with us last week to talk about his future plans and how he would like to see Little Rock’s farmers markets grow.
And there are very few dishes with as big a fanbase as the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Breast at Maddie’s Place. We took a look at this comfort food classic in this week’s Signatures.
