Rumbles: H.B.'s Owner Bruce Slaughter Dies, Arthur's Open at New Location

This weekend, friends and family at H.B.’s Bar-B-Q laid owner Bruce Slaughter to rest. Slaughter died last week after a six-year battle with thyroid cancer. Slaughter was part of the family that owned The Shack BBQ, a legendary Little Rock restaurant that produced several other barbecue businesses. One of those was H.B.’s, which Slaughter’s parents opened in Southwest Little Rock in 1960. Bruce Slaughter became the sole owner of the business in 1996, and together with his wife Judi ran one of the best barbecue restaurants in the state. Judi Slaughter says she will continue her husband’s legacy and keep H.B.’s going at its location on Lancaster Road. As always, H.B.’s is open for lunch only, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. H.B.’s is a cash-only business.
The new restaurant at the Arkansas Arts Center is ready to expand its hours. Watercolor in the Park opened last week for lunch Tuesday through Saturday. This weekend, the Keet family-owned restaurant will also open for Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Watercolor in the Park hasn’t yet announced its full brunch menu, but it has teased a few dishes, including Sriracha Honey Chicken and Waffles, a Wagyu Corned Beef Skillet, and Filet and Eggs. This brunch will become a permanent fixture after Sunday and will even include an appearance by Santa Claus on Sunday the 16th. Watercolor in the Park is strongly urging guests to make reservations and not count on grabbing a table by walking up. You can make your reservation by calling 501-396-0390
We missed it last week, but Arthur’s Prime Steakhouse has completed the move to its new location in West Little Rock. Arthur’s is now located at 16100 Chenal Pkwy. It announced the move to the former Acura dealership almost a year ago, but changing a car dealership into a restaurant takes quite a lot of effort. Ocean’s at Arthur’s was the first to complete the move, opening back in September. Both Arthur’s and Ocean’s are open seven days a week for dinner and share a brunch service on Sundays.
In my opinion, there isn’t a better barbecue restaurant in Arkansas than Wright’s BBQ up in Johnson (near Fayetteville). I make it a point to stop in nearly every time I’m up there, but next year, the people at Wright’s have decided to make their first appearance in the capital city. Wright’s announced on Twitter last night it will set up a portable smoker and do some tailgating for the Razorback’s Little Rock game in 2019 against Missouri. Yeah, it’s a long way out, but trust me, you won’t want to miss it. Wright’s started out as a food truck in the Fayetteville area before opening its permanent location in the spring of last year.
