In around two weeks, District Fare will be open for business in Hillcrest. Owner Tomas Bohm (The Pantry, The Pantry Crest) says his first opening will be an open house on Thursday, April 6, for Hillcrest’s traditional First Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. If all goes well, District Fare will be open for business the week of April 10. District Fare is opening in the space that once belonged to neighborhood favorite Hillcrest Artisan Meats, which closed in December. District Fare will offer sandwiches, salads and take-home dinner options, in addition to some groceries and provisions. Bohm has also greatly expanded seating in the restaurant and plans on being open seven days a week.
Two of Central Arkansas’ finest restaurants (and their equally tremendous owners) are coming together for a dinner event that you won’t want to miss tonight. South on Main is welcoming DeLuca’s Pizzeria’s Anthony Valinoti into the kitchen to collaborate on a special Italian-themed menu with chef Matthew Bell. Hot Springs musician Chuck Dodson will perform his final Sessions concert in what promises to be a quickly sold-out event. After months of delays from their insurance companies and the city, Midtown Billiards is finally full swing in the rebuilding phase. Metro Disaster Specialists has installed new wiring and plumbing, but there is still plenty of work to be done. The entire bar had to be gutted, with floors, walls and ceilings all removed and rebuilt from scratch. Midtown Billiards caught fire in September while the business was closed. The fire marshal determined the cause of the fire was an electrical short. Midtown Billiards is one of the few bars in Little Rock that hold a class B license, allowing them to stay open until 5 a.m.
As quickly as he took the reins, Diamond Bear’s head brewer Jeremy Whitehead is leaving for Texas. The Austin native will be taking over head brewer duties at Rough Diamond Brewing Company in Spring Branch, Texas, which is where many friends and family live. Rough Diamond is opening a brand new brewing facility that Whitehead will lead. In the short time he led Diamond Bear Brewing Company, Whitehead was perhaps best known for starting a small batch series of locally focused brews, as well as making improvements to some of the brewery’s more popular recipes. Diamond Bear is now looking for head brewer and assistant brewer candidates.
The warm weather you’re enjoying means it’s strawberry season in Arkansas. Better yet, it’s strawberry shortcake season at Trio’s. Owner Capi Peck put her famous shortcakes back on the menu last week. This is a cherished Little Rock classic that only lasts for a month or so, so make sure you get to Trio’s very soon before this year’s strawberry season comes to an end.
After just over half a year as a sous chef at Cache Restaurant, Joseph Salgueiro is leaving and taking the executive chef position at Pleasant Valley Country Club. Salgueiro, a former sous at 1620 Savoy, has been praised for his work, particularly with Cache’s monthly Around the World dinner series. Salgueiro is a native of New York City.
