Get ready for a new wave of biscuits to arrive in Little Rock this fall. Delta Biscuit Company has been working for almost two years now on getting its food truck business up and running, and this week announced it will be ready before Halloween. Owner Hayne Begley has been developing his biscuit-centered menu into distinct breakfast and lunch offerings. Breakfast will be largely traditional, like biscuits and gravy, egg sandwiches and the like. Lunch will get a bit more experimental, with dishes like biscuit burgers and biscuit-based desserts. Begley has previously said he hopes the food truck’s success will eventually lead to a permanent restaurant location.
One of my favorite new restaurants of 2018 is on the move. Kontiki African Restaurant has closed the doors on its Alexander location for a move to a new spot. Right now, Kontiki is keeping quiet on exactly where this spot is; I would bet on somewhere in Little Rock, but right now the restaurant isn’t even saying what city it’s in. We will pass the word on as soon as we know more. Kontiki became Central Arkansas’ first African restaurant this year, and its menu of Sierra Leone classics has been both uncompromising and delicious. The restaurant has attracted fans as far away as Colorado and is sure to garner new supporters wherever it ends up.
South on Main is hosting a special dinner this Sunday evening. Zara Abassi is showcasing her Pakistani heritage in an event called Sunday Supper with Zara. Forty guests will get to check out three special dishes from Abassi’s home:
- Mini kebab rolls with green chutney
- Chicken korma with buttered naan
- Mango ice cream with spiced cookie crust
There are also vegetarian alternatives for each dish. Tickets are $45, and believe it or not there are still a few available. Seating is limited to just 40 guests, so if you want to attend you need to act soon. Call 501-244-9660 to make your reservations.
It’s only been open a couple of weeks, but the early success for Ira’s Restaurant has the place looking for some extra help. Ira’s is currently hiring to fill two new line cook positions in the kitchen. Interested applicants can call 501-902-4911 or drop off their resume in person at the location on Main Street. We stopped by Ira’s last week for a First Look and found a lot to recommend, including a bar program that should please even the most demanding guests.
