Growlers: Rebel Kettle RedRumPum, Lost Forty Nighty Night on Tap, Blue Canoe Opens New Spot

It’s going to be a big week at Rebel Kettle starting on Thursday with the release of the 2017 version of RedRumPum. In case you forgot from last year, RedRumPum is Rebel Kettle’s pumpkin amber ale barrel-aged for several months in Caribbean rum barrels. Last year’s version was 10 percent ABV with plenty of rich toffee and vanilla flavors, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings. Then on Saturday, the brewery is holding a special release party for its Hell Camino chipotle porter. The party includes a special performance by Hell Camino, the southern sludge metal band whom the brew is named after. The party gets started at 7 p.m.; Hell Camino takes the stage at 9 p.m. Then on Sunday, the brew team heads north to Springfield, Missouri, to brew a special collaboration project with regional craft heavyweights Mother’s Brewing Company. We will tell you all about that one as soon as we know more.

Lost Forty Brewing held one excellent party Saturday night to celebrate the release of Nighty Night, and the festivities continue into today’s Freshcut Monday. The 2017 version of Nighty Night goes on tap today at the brewery starting at 4 p.m. There are also still some 4-packs available for sale. This will be the final time you can purchase Nighty Night for several weeks, as Lost Forty is holding the rest of its stock back for distribution in November. Nighty Night features the brewery’s imperial stout aged in three different barrels and blended for a high-ABV, rich brew. It is always one of the more anticipated beers of the year, so make sure you get yours before it’s gone.

Congratulations to Blue Canoe Brewing Company, which this past weekend opened up a second location on 15th Street in Little Rock. The new spot is considerably larger than Blue Canoe’s downtown taproom, allowing the brewery room to expand its brewing operations and experiment more with new and unique brews. The warehouse is open to the public and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The taproom on 3rd Street will remain open and operate under its usual business hours. The warehouse will only be open on weekends, but will host private events during the week.

Great food and great beer are coming together on Sunday when Flyway Brewing welcomes Dempsey Barbecue’s Ken Dempsey and his outstanding menu for a one-day pop-up. This all begins at noon on Sunday and goes until the restaurant closes or the food runs out. So far, we’ve seen a brisket Frito pie, a spicy shrimp burger and Dempsey’s spicy pig sandwich on the menu. Keep an eye on the event page for more information as the weekend gets closer. By the way, Flyway is hosting October’s Industry Night from ARFoodJobs on Thursday from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. and will be selling pretzels and nachos for the event. Industry night is a special night for restaurant professionals to hang out with their collegues after their shift ends.

Halloween is coming up fast, and Stone’s Throw Brewing is taking a fun approach to the occasion. The brewery is hosting a “Howl-O-Ween” pet costume contest, featuring categories like scariest, funniest, and best pet/owner get-up. There will also be a pet photographer on hand to document the fun. The costume contest goes from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday. By the way, don’t forget Stone’s Throw’s #NewBrewFriday, when the team will debut its Barrel-Aged Baltic Porter. That kicks off at 4 p.m. on Friday.
