Growlers: Flyway and Bulleit Team Up, Lost Forty Coffee Vanilla Porter

Flyway Brewing is bringing in some friends from the spirits world this week, welcoming Bulleit Frontier Whiskey to the taproom on Tuesday. Flyway and Bulleit will be doing beer-and-whiskey pairings from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., including Honeybird Boilermakers and a four-course tasting flight. In addition, Flyway will be tapping its new barrel-aged Free Range Brown Ale, aged in Bulleit bourbons barrels just for this event. There will also be a special food menu for the evening. This isn’t a ticketed event; just show up and pay by the order. Then on Thursday, RNT Duck Calls from Stuttgart will be in the tasting room celebrating Flyway’s new Flying Duck Amber Ale. RNT will also tune your duck call and have a few of their own on hand. That event lasts from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
A cold, rainy day like this Monday needs a good, stiff beer to make things right again. Lost Forty Brewing has one for you for its Freshcut Monday today. Coffee Vanilla Baltic Porter starts with Lost Forty’s Puffy Jacket porter and adds fresh Madagascar vanilla beans and coffee from Blue Sail Coffee in Little Rock. Puffy Jacket is already a 9 percent ABV brew, and the coffee and vanilla additions should make for a perfect cold-weather warmer. This is a very small batch; you can only get Coffee Vanilla Baltic Porter by the glass starting today at 4 p.m. By the way, if you’re stuck on Thanksgiving plans, Lost Forty can do the cooking for you. For $125, you get smoked turkey breast, four sides and a 12-pack of Lost Forty beer. Orders are due in by Sunday, so don’t wait long.
Stone’s Throw Brewing this week is also helping you fight the cold with its #NewBrewFriday release. The taproom at MacArthur Park is releasing Ol’ Razzle Dazzle, a raspberry smoked porter. A typical porter has a roasted malt, but Stone’s Throw adds in a smoking step before getting the brew together. Fresh raspberry puree gives the final brew a tart flavor that complements the light, smoky notes nicely. It goes on tap at 4 p.m. on Friday. By the way, we’re hearing that the Stone’s Throw team is ready to start build-out at its new Stifft Station location. You can expect that one to be ready at some point in early 2019.
A fan favorite is back on tap this week at Rebel Kettle Brewing Company with the return of Clockwork Blood Orange Double Brown Ale. Rebel Kettle has tweaked the Clockwork recipe for this batch, adding twice as much fruit as usual. The brew team says this one has a bigger orange punch that works better with the chocolate and caramel notes in the original brew. This one is a super small batch; don’t expect to bring home a growler full. Just enjoy a glass in the taproom starting at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
And Core Brewing has a new brew on tap at all of its public houses around the state this week. Heisenberg Hefeweizen is a classic Hefe recipe with dominant banana, vanilla and clove notes from the yeast. In addition to putting in on tap, Core is making this available in cans. We haven’t heard yet if the cans are getting distributed or if this is only for the public houses and taproom.
